Strengthening health & safety leadership, processes and confidence at Sheffield City Council.
Sheffield City Council was in the process of recruiting a new Head of Health & Safety when I joined the organisation on a short term assignment.
The priority was to ensure the health & safety function remained strong and effective while providing expert day to day guidance to the team.
The council needed support to review key risk areas, strengthen processes and build a clear plan to develop and embed consistent ways of working.
I provided day-to-day leadership and guidance to the health & safety team, ensuring business as usual continued to run smoothly.
During the 3-month assignment carried out key reviews including SOPs and risk assessments, with a focus on lone working and violence & aggression / personal safety.
I supported service managers with serious incident investigations and provided assurance on risk management and compliance.
An outline plan was created to deliver SOPs and risk assessment training to build capability and confidence across the organisation.
Despite the short timeframe, the council benefitted from strengthened processes, improved risk management and greater confidence in the health & safety function.
