HSE Consults on Changes to RIDDOR

The Health and Safety Executive launched a consultation on proposed changes to the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013 (RIDDOR). The consultation closed on 30 June 2026.

Proposals included:

  • clarifying definitions within RIDDOR that are considered unclear or ambiguous;
  • updating the list of dangerous occurrences to better reflect modern workplace risks;
  • revising the list of reportable occupational diseases, including potentially reintroducing or adding conditions;
  • widening the range of registered health professionals able to diagnose a reportable occupational disease; and
  • simplifying the online RIDDOR reporting process.

What should organisations do?

There is no immediate change to current RIDDOR reporting duties. Employers should continue to report incidents, injuries, diseases and dangerous occurrences under the existing Regulations.

However, organisations should be aware that changes may follow the consultation and should review their incident reporting procedures if revised requirements are introduced.
